We exist to help people find ‘Life in Christ‘.

We do this by:

  • LIFE: offering forgiveness and new life by declaring and living the good news of our resurrected Lord Jesus.
  • GROWTH: Growing in understanding, faith and maturity in Jesus by reading his Word and through the work of the Spirit in our lives.
  • LOVE: Living in love for one another and our broader community out of the overflow of God’s love for us.

Supporting passages:

  • 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 – Christ’s love compels us in the ministry of reconciliation.
  • Colossians 1:28 – present everyone fully mature in Christ.
  • Matthew 22:34-40 – love God and neighbour.
  • Matthew 28:16-20 – disciples making disciples.
  • John 20:31 – these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Messiah… and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Beliefs

We uphold the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, as defined by the 39 articles, the Apostles Creed and the Book of Common Prayer.  Our core beliefs can be summarised as follows (taken from AFES Statement of Faith):

  • The divine inspiration and infallibility of Holy Scripture as originally given and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
  • The unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.
  • The universal sinfulness and guilt of humanity since the fall, rendering men and women subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.
  • The conception of Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit and his birth by the virgin Mary.
  • Redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death, as our representative and substitute, of Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God.
  • The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
  • The necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Christ effective in the individual sinner, granting him or her repentance towards God, and faith in Jesus Christ.
  • The indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit in the believer.
  • The expectation of the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Distinctives:

  • Primacy of the Gospel: We aim to clearly proclaim the good news that Jesus by his death and resurrection offers to all who repent and trust in him the only way for forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
  • Prayer: We value prayer and depend on God to work in and through us to bring about his purposes.
  • Systematic expository preaching:  We are committed to systematically preaching through the Bible and interpreting it based on its context and the rest of Scripture.
  • Kingdom Vision:  We pray for and support the Church and mission beyond our own parish both overseas and locally in other Churches.
  • People over programmes: We aim to foster a community of strong relationships and love and care among one another.
  • All things to all people: We strive to be flexible and variable as to our style and liturgy to present the unchanging Word of God to our modern world in the best way possible.
  • Every Member Ministry:  We hope to encourage, equip and train everyone in their understanding, godliness and opportunities to serve in our Church and wider community.
  • Welcoming to all: We welcome all people to join us and encourage them to submit to Jesus as their King and Saviour.
