Message to Parent/Caregiver

Hi there. You’re reading this because your special little someone did something that they shouldn’t have at WAY. That’s a bummer. A repeated pattern of disrespectful, disobedient, and/or unacceptable behaviour is something we think you should be aware of, and we’d like to team up with you to help change things.

Please be aware, this is not about punishment and your little cherub is not being “dobbed on” – instead we would like this to be a positive step in working together.

Please familiarise yourself with the WAY discipline plan below, and take some time to discuss with your darling child what went wrong and why.

Thanks very much – and be assured – we love having your high-schooler with us! No hard feelings. And thank you for understanding our limitations. We appreciate your partnership with us to make WAY an awesome place for everyone to be.

While there is absolutely no expectation for you to contact us – should you want to discuss further, please contact Scott on 0466 823 883.

Wilton Anglican Youth Discipline Process:

Unacceptable
behaviour results in:

1. A clear verbal warning from a youth leader

Persistent
misbehaving is
followed by:

2. A 5-min time out & “explain yourself” worksheet

If behaviour
returns again at that time,

3. Youth is removed from the activity
and parents/caregivers are contacted

that is what this is

If level 3 occurs 3 times in one term:

4. Parents/caregivers are called for immediate
pick-up & youth are suspended from WAY.

Terms of return in consultation with youth coordinator

If behaviour is
dangerous or
excessively
inappropriate at any time:

5. Parents/caregivers are called for immediate
pick-up & youth are suspended from WAY.

Terms of return in consultation with youth coordinator

Questions from the “Explain Yourself” worksheet:

In step 2 of the disciplinary plan, youth are required to write answers the following questions:

1. What poor behaviour are the youth leaders seeing? Why is it happening?

2. Where might this kind of behaviour lead? Why do we want to avoid that?

3. What behaviour will make WAY a better place? Why is it worthwhile?
