Our Message to Parents/Caregivers

Hi there. You’re reading this because your special little someone did something that they shouldn’t have at WAY. That’s a bummer. A repeated pattern of disrespectful, disobedient, and/or unacceptable behaviour is something we think you should be aware of, and we’d like to team up with you to help change things. Please be aware, this is not about punishment and your special little someone is not being “dobbed on” – instead we would like this to be a positive step in working together.

After reading through our step-by-step discipline plan below, please take the time to discuss with your little special someone the following questions:

Note: this is identical to the “explain yourself” worksheet in step 2 below

1. What behaviour are the youth leaders seeing? Why is it happening?

2. Where might this kind of behaviour lead? Why do we want to avoid that?

3. What behaviour will make WAY a better place? Why is it worthwhile?

Wilton Anglican Youth Discipline Plan:

Unacceptable behaviour results in,
1. A clear verbal warning from a youth leader

Persistent behaviour is followed by,
2. A five-minute time-out and filling out the “explain yourself” worksheet

If behaviour returns,
3. Youth is removed for the remainder of the activity and a message is sent to parents/caregivers directing to the disciplinary process page Note: that is what this is

If, at any point, behaviour endangers other or is excessively inappropriate,
4. Parents/caregivers are called for immediate pick-up, and youth are suspended from WAY. Terms of return to WAY are decided in consultation with youth coordinator, parents/caregivers, and youth.

If, three times in one term, behaviour progresses to the text message stage then,
5. Youth are suspended from WAY. Terms of return to WAY are decided in consultation with youth coordinator, parents/caregivers, and youth.
